How I Got Started Making Money Selling Books, Videos, YouTube, Google Adsense, Personalized Products And More.  

My Personal Background

In order to fully understand how I became successful with my own online and offline businesses, I wanted you to see where I started and how I ended in the place where I am at right now.  

It all started in 1997.  I was working for the United States Federal Government processing rural home loans. It was your typical 9-5 pay-your-bills type of job.  During that time, I was trying to figure out how to make a few extra bucks in my spare time.  I eventually found out that I could do pretty well selling knick knack types of gifts to co-workers and friends.

Basically, I bought personalized gifts and crafts like personalized mugs and shirts from wholesalers and then sold them retail to my friends and people at my job. I made a few bucks here and there. It was a little extra $25.00 per week. I was not going to get rich doing that but it let me know that people would buy certain things from me and gave me that ego boost and a sense of self confidence that I needed  

It was then that I discovered that if I was able to create my own gifts, I could make higher profits.  I soon found a way to make my own personalized items and sell them. Now instead of buying something wholesale for $3.00 and selling it for $6.00, I could make my own gifts and make 6-8 times what I paid for the materials for. The materials would cost me $2.50 to buy.  I would then create the gifts out of the material and sell it for $20.00.  So I made $17.50 profit every time I sold my own products. I then started making a few hundred dollars per week

 I did pretty well selling to people around my neighborhood but I was looking to expand my market area. I got tired of meeting people, showcasing my product, making the products, selling the product and then having to deliver it. It was fun and lucrative but it got pretty old and time consuming.  I wanted an easier way to showcase, market and deliver my personalized gifts.

That was when selling on the internet was becoming the big thing.  I read a few books on selling online and I learned how to create a website by using one of those online website builders. I started selling my personalized gifts online and it became a success. Now not only was I selling locally but I was selling around the world to places like the Japan, Australia and the U.K. Nobody knew anything about me, nor did they care. They saw what I was selling, sent me money and I shipped the products

However, the bad point came in when I grew tired of constantly having to create the personalized products myself. It got time consuming and I kept missing my dates of delivery because I became swamped full of orders every time the holidays came around. My business started to become another job that I didn’t look forward to doing anymore. I didn’t mind marketing but I hated the technical aspects of doing it.

It was during this time, that I got introduced to the idea of selling information online. I was told by online experts that it was better to sell how-to information in the form of books, e-books, and videos because you only had to create it one time and the profits were 10 to 100 times the cost of your product. That meant that I could create a book which cost me $2.00 per book and get $20.00-$100.00 each. All I had to do was make copies.

So I researched it and discovered that people were making a lot of money creating books and videos on how to subjects. So I decided to try it myself. I was told there were two ways to sell your products.

·        Method #1.)You could either create a 1 page sales page to sell 1 product

·        Method #2) Create a multi page website in a specific niche area with lots of free interesting useful content and use that as a vehicle to drive people to buy my products. .

I wasn’t sure which way was the best way so decided to try both ways. I knew that EBay was a good way to sell things so decided to use EBay to sell my products on a single page website.  I knew that I could sell a how to manual on making personalized gifts.  I sold a manual on personalized gifts and it sold like hot cakes. I only had to go the Office Max print and copy shop a few miles from my house twice per week, spend about an hour copying 30 books, and then packaged them in special envelopes and mailed it.

During that same time, I ALSO created a multi page niche content website based upon what I did for fun. I loved to travel to events. I traveled to the sporting events or went to different festivals.

I decided that since I loved to travel and tell others what I did, my website would reflect me. I chose travel as my particular website niche. I could write about my travel experience and I would never get bored.

I would travel to the certain events or places and video tape the events and then sell them on the website. I understood that most people could not travel to the places I had gone, so what I would do was video tape the places I traveled to and bring the experience back to their living room by selling my own homemade DVDs. I also provided details on the best hotels to stay, restaurants to eat and what to do if they ever decided to travel to the same events.

I just wrote my experience in the same way many people write in Blogs today.

Google and Yahoo would list my websites at the top of the search engines and I would get all this free traffic from a variety on online places.

It was during this time, I found out that there was another way to bring in extra money for the same website. I joined affiliate programs. I became apart of a few travel affiliate programs that basically worked like this.

A person would come to my website to get information on a certain event or trip. I placed a lot of content on my websites regarding certain travel places.  They would then, go to my hotel page, check out all the hotels and a few of them would actually book a trip through my affiliate link. I would then get a commission check based upon how many people booked a hotel package through my link.  I started making a few thousand extra dollars per month doing it this way. However it was all based upon my ability you get the person to actually make 3 steps. Reading my page, clicking to get more information the hotel rooms, booking the rooms and then having to wait until the month after they booked the room to receive my check.

So basically the way I made money was providing lots of free content and information on my own website.  I sold homemade DVDs and affiliate programs through my website.

Now, fast forward to 2004.  This was when I heard about a program that Google launched for online content writers called Google Adsense.  They paid you every time someone clicked ads that were placed upon your website.  I no longer had to sell anything (if I didn’t want) All I had to do was provide content and Google would pay you based upon how many people clicked ads.  All they had to do was click on the page and then I got paid. This turned into a nice $3,000 – $5,000 per monthly check within 1 week  after I implemented the ads on my website

In 2006, Google bought YouTube and encourage people to put up videos and share them on websites.  I soon discovered that adding YouTube videos from the millions of videos out there doubled  my Google check from $3,000/4,000 monthly to making up to $8,500 per month.  In this course you are going to discover how I did and how you can too. August 15th, 1999 was the happiest day of my life. That was the last day I ever had to work for anyone again.
